Wellness Reflections: Follow Peace

Peace in the storm

Peace in the stormTimes are tough for everyone and some of us are really struggling financially, spiritually, and emotionally. Unfortunately, these circumstances can bring out the worst in people. On the other hand, there are some who seem to flourish the harder things get. The difference is not found in the difficulty of the problems they are facing. Rather, it is found in their response to the storms ahead. Consider the following:

To decrease your ability to weather the storms:

  • Make your decisions and choose your behaviors based on a foundation of human emotions like fear, worry, anxiety, guilt, shame, depression, passion, and excitement. You can manufacture whatever human emotion you need in order to justify getting whatever it is you want to get. Even when you know it’s not in your best interest. Essentially, human emotions can and often will lead you astray.

To increase your ability to weather the storms:

  • Make your decisions and choose your behaviors based on a foundation of peace. While you can create whatever human emotion you need, you cannot manufacture peace. Peace will never lead you astray.

There are two kinds of peace:

  • Temporal peace is a human emotion. This is commonly described as a non-emotion, empty emotion, or a lack of feelings.
  • Spiritual peace is a God given emotion. This is an undeniable calmness that encompasses your spirit and the deepest part of your being. It cannot be taken away from you regardless of the frequency and magnitude of the storms you find yourself in.

The truth is Spiritual peace is not something you create. It is something you seek after, grab onto, submit yourself to, and follow. Therefore, Spiritual peace is never misleading; you can and should trust it!  (excerpts from Coach Jim Nacarado)
