Waking up in the morning Mary Welling experiences stomach pain and as she gets up from the bed the back hurts. Yes, it’s that time of the month. Menstrual cramps, a horrible but not unfamiliar feeling. You can get it immediately before getting your period, or during. What a lot of women end up doing when this happens is put hot compress, sleep or take a pain reliever.
Surprisingly enough, most women don’t know that chiropractic can help with menstrual cramps. How you might ask?
Let’s think about it. What causes cramps? Menstrual cramps are caused by muscle contractions in the uterus; sometimes the pelvic round ligaments tighten and cause pain. If the uterus contracts too strongly, the muscles can press against blood vessels, cutting of the supply of oxygen to the muscles in the uterus, which causes pain.
The central nervous system controls everything. The nerves that innervate the uterus are the sacral nerves. What can contribute to or magnify this problem? Spinal and pelvic misalignments irritating the nerves to the uterus. Chiropractic has been known to help with menstrual cramps; it is a known thing where chiropractic has been well established.
Other GYN problems can also develop because of the same nerve involvement of the lumbar and sacral misalignments. Such as heavy menstruation, skipping a month, infertility, irregular periods, etc.
Good news today is that there is no need to think you have to put up with those horrible monthly pains, it can be a thing of the past.
