The Elderly And Chiropractic Care

The Elderly And Chiropractic Care

It is common knowledge that throughout life we go through minor or even major injuries. But nature – being as powerful as it is – we heal. However, we rarely heal 100%.

So decade by decade small problems accumulate and linger. As we age we experience more disability or reduced ability.

Chiropractic is known worldwide as a profession that helps restore ability, prevents disability, and eliminates much of the pain that could potentially ruin our days, our months, our lives. The reason people have learned to appreciate and respect that special role chiropractors bring to our families and to the ones that we love that are aging, is to help them live more meaningful active lives and reduce their overall need for medication. Truly a good thing!

Some of the most common conditions that the elderly suffer, yet can have much relief and reduce much medications, are as follows:

  • Degenerative Arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Slipped discs
  • Sciatica
  • Numbness in the hands, arms or legs
  • Digestive disorders
  • Constipation
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Neck pain and back pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Knee pain and wrist pain

How does chiropractic help the elderly? By performing spinal manipulation, or adjusting of the bones of the spine to bring back normal or near normal function of these joints.

Also, spinal misalignments affect nerves causing pain and internal organ dysfunction. Making gentle and necessary corrections help relieve these issues or even restore proper function.

And even though much of what we suffer as we get older may never be restored, it doesn’t mean we have to be suffering all the time and live with increasing impairment and disability. That is the promise that Chiropractic can deliver.

I like this expression: “Sick and tired of being sick and tired?”
Chiropractic maybe the solution you have been looking for.

Yours in Health,
docMIKE

Sugar Only Available. Really?

Sugar Only Available. Really?

This is a public health announcement. Restaurant owners please read.
Stop Tolerating

Filipino restaurant establishments that fail to offer non-sugary drinks on their menus for their customers are contributing to the epidemic of Diabetes in this country.

According to the World Health Organization over 25% of the Filipinos are diabetic and within the next generation that number will jump to 50%. Two main causes: lack of regular physical activity and wrong diet, including sugary foods and drinks.

Restaurant owners and corporations that own restaurant chains need to be held accountable for the part they are contributing to this national epidemic. Let me make this simple… this is a public health problem and everyone needs to be part of the solution. Truth is if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

If your favorite restaurant offers you alternative drinks that do not contain sugar be a good citizen and thank them. Good behavior that is recognized is behavior that is repeated.

If you are in a restaurant establishment that does not offer you a diet drink other than water then it is your responsibility to complain to them.

It is your civic duty to reduce the burden of economic and physical disability due to Diabetes. We don’t tolerate smoking in public places anymore and it’s time we stop tolerating bad policies by restaurants that owe their success to their dining customers and at the expense of their health.

Nearly every family is affected or will be affected by this epidemic. Corporations do have a civic duty and corporate responsibility in this way.  It’s called corporate responsibility.

We don’t need a law to outlaw sugar excess; we need corporate and especially a personal responsibility.  In the public sector, more information is needed to educate the public about wrong lifestyle habits that cause Diabetes.

Posture Alliance in the Philippines

Posture Alliance in the Philippines

Back Joy, a national posture product company, is tying up with Mabuhay Chiropractic Clinics to improve access to products and services for the relief of common every day back pain, neck pain and headaches.

The philosophy of natural, non-drug approaches to pain management is what brings these two premiere companies together. Back Joy has 15 locations in the Philippines and Mabuhay has 10 clinics nationally once Cebu opens in July.

In their co-branding activities, there will be online sales and in person posture screenings available at their various locations. This means that most anyone in Metro Manila or Cebu can undergo a free posture evaluation; one accurate enough to determine specific products and services that will help you out of your pain predicament.

This is sounding more like a press release than a blog (lol) because this is an exciting development for the good people of the Philippines. For a FREE posture screening, here are their respective locations, which are periodically updated as both companies expand.

A famous quote by docMIKE is as follows: “Posture is a Reflection of your Health.” Why this is true has everything to do with two things: The integrity of your spine can be seen by looking at your posture. This can be rated on a scale of 1 to 10 and it’s interpretation has health consequences. The spine, protects your sensitive nervous system yet when misalignments and other postural defects are present, as the nerves control all body parts, therefore your body and your health just aren’t at their best.

Think about this. Whenever you see someone with excellent posture you naturally assume that they have excellent health. But the opposite is also true. When you see someone with poor posture or bad posture you geberally assume they have poor health or bad health. How did you come to that conclusion? A lifetime of observations of people and certainly not some scientific magazine. I guess you could say it’s just plain common sense. So the statement that your posture is a reflection of your health is a very significant statement.

So what’s your posture look like? Well the good news is between the Back Joy stores and kiosks in malls throughout the country and the growing number of Mabuhay Chiropractic Clinics mostly located in malls as well, your opportunity to undergo a professional posture screening is there. Best news is that it’s free.

Why is it free? Because in part this is a public service rendered by these two posture giants. Secondly, for those who do test out with problems, they can discuss options that will give them real results. Refreshing and helpful information.

So have you had your spine checked lately?

Children and Chiropractic Care

Children and Chiropractic Care

Child development markers are critical for lifelong health and pediatricians are tasked to monitor children for abnormalities in development. Chiropractors perform a critical specialist role in spinal development such as scoliosis.
There are severe deforming cases of scoliosis and there are functional cases. Chiropractic brings a depth of expertise that prevents the need for spinal surgery and provides true preventive health services for children.
Spinal misalignments begin for most people during childhood. The active life of a child makes them prone to multiple injuries that may seen innocent enough but in truth set the foundation for the spinal misalignemnts chiropractors find in adult patients.

Add Accountability to Your New Year’s Resolutions

Add Accountability to Your New Year’s Resolutions

The common social activity when January 1 rolls around is the feeling of “new hope” or the ability to “start again” with a new resolve. We give certain issues a higher priority, even make the proverbial new year’s resolution or commitment. This a healthy human trait, one that says: “Today s the first day of the rest of my life!” In all matters of life where we succeed there is always a driving force I call FOCUS. That is a topic of an earlier blog I suggest you also read today.

The present word of wisdom I wish to share with our readers / followers is: ACCOUNTABILITY. Websters defines accountability (pananagutan) as “the quality or state of being accountable; especially : an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions.”

Chiropractic and Gastritis, natural options

Chiropractic and Gastritis, natural options

Early college year exam stress has Christian Welling doubling over with stomach pains. The doctors say he has gastritis. Why is it that when people undergo stress that some people get stomach problems like gastritis or GERD, while others get headaches or others experience diarrhea or still something else? Since 1895 Chiropractic has understood that these problems may be tied to nerve interferences that result from spinal misalignments, called Vertebral Subluxations.

As we look at the chart of the Autonomic Nervous System it illustrates the pathways for the Sympathetic (yellow)  and Parasympathetic (blue) nerve groupings. Continue reading

What are natural solutions for a Lipoma?

What are natural solutions for a Lipoma?

lipomaEver feel a lump under the skin and worried if it was cancer or a tumor? Well that is exactly what Paul Welling had feared. Having undergone years of perfectly normal annual check ups, Paul was told he had a small lump growing on his back. Alarmed he underwent some checks and was relieved to hear that there were no signs of cancer and this it was just a lipoma.

So what was this lump? It turned out to be a lipoma, a fatty tumor. That sounds ominous when the term tumor is used by a doctor. The truth is there are three type of tumors, the cancerous types, even worst are the metastatic types; and then there are the benign ones. Fortunately the lipoma is the latter, a benign growth. So what is a lipoma? Continue reading
